Hi! With the days being shorter and the nights longer I would like to talk about seasonal depression or better known as SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). I live in Michigan, winters here can be brutal and long. Several of us suffer from some form of depression during this time. It can be hard to get up and go to work each day especially when we feel like crud all of the time. This post is about natural ways you can help with those symptoms. Keep in mind I am not a doctor or therapist. I am someone that has suffered with this and these are some things I've tried and were beneficial to me. If none of this work for you then please seek professional help with your primary care doctor or therapist.

1.Mentally prepare in the Fall by establishing a good schedule of activity such as exercise or social activities with friends or hobbies.

  1. Light box therapy. I found this to be super helpful. I would use it every day in the morning while I was getting ready for work. You only need to use it for about 15 to 20 minutes.

  1. Aromatherapy. Nothing helps me more than smelling something soothing and nice. I use aromatherapy a lot throughout the year. But for the winter months I use candles to lift my mood. I use a candle warmer instead of lighting it. It keeps the candles for longer and is safer.

  1. Tanning. I used to go to a tanning booth 2 to 3 times a week. I'm super pale so I would only do it for about 5 minutes but man it worked so well. I literally could feel my body humming after each session. I highly recommend it.

  1. Vitamin D supplement. There is a direct link between low vitamin D levels and depression. I take a vitamin D supplement every day. Or you can eat foods that are rich in vitamin D such as fish, eggs, milk, cheese, or yogurt.

These are just some I recommend. If none of them work for you I would recommend seeking professional help for your symptoms. I will be covering more about this topic in my video. I hope this was helpful.

I have a Youtube Channel where I discuss this more at length:
